About the work
Windúa (2024) is a multichannel electroacoustic composition based on field recordings made during Rosales Fonseca’s visits to Kággaba territory in the Sierra Nevada de Gonawindúa, Colombia.
The work brings together the changing soundscapes of Windúa during the day and night, everyday sounds recorded in Teykú, moments of learning Kággaba flutes with Camilo barro, and conversations with Vangelio dingula, including recordings in which the composer can be heard repeating words he is learning. These materials are placed alongside the voice of Konrad Theodor Preuss and the mechanical noises of early phonographic recordings.
Developed through encounters, walks, and processes of learning, Windúa reflects a shift in the composer’s artistic research: from approaching sound as material to be collected and transformed toward recognizing the relationships, limitations, and responsibilities that shape what he is able to hear and understand.
